Dr. Podojil has had an extensive history of working in the public school sector focusing on the fiscal issues that impact our local communities and their relation to providing and delivering a high level of educational programs and services. As an educator and superintendent, his love of learning, the desire to pass along the gift of education, on so many levels, has been his inspiration. He brings to the financial realm a great understanding of fiscal propriety, coupled with a sincere appreciation and respect for those individuals seeking financial services.
Dr. Podojil is also Co-founder of The Ohio Educators Planning Group (OEdPG). In 1998, when he was the superintendent at West Geauga Schools, he began working with Ted Lorenzen, a financial planner at Cedar Brook. As they planned together to address Tony’s retirement goals, they began to realize that the financial industry did not have a very good understanding of how STRS works and what options exist for members. Having become convinced that they could provide a valuable service to help educators and to demonstrate their commitment to this professional sector, The Ohio Educators Planning Group was formed. Their work with individual clients as well as being actively involved in working with several major educational organizations state wide has led to their assisting individuals with how the latest round of STRS changes impact future retirement projections and helping them chart their financial goals moving forward.
Prior to his starting as a financial consultant for Cedar Brook, he served the communities of Chesterland and Russell in the role of superintendent of the West Geauga Schools for 13 years. In this role, he oversaw the financial, administrative, and education programs that were instrumental in guiding the district to achieving the highest state wide ranking over the last decade, Excellent with Distinction. Prior to serving as superintendent, he worked as the principal at West Geauga High School and Chagrin Falls Middle School as well as in various administrative roles in Cleveland Hts., Painesville Township, and the Orange public schools. The expanse of these 25 years as an educator began in 1979, where he got his start as a 2nd grade teacher.
In addition to his work at Cedar Brook, he is currently serving in the role of the Executive Director for the Alliance of High Quality Education, a statewide public school organization housed in the Columbus area. In this role, in which he represents approximately 60 Ohio public school districts, he is charged with advocating for academic and fiscal legislative improvements at the local and state level. He has also served as an adjunct professor at John Carroll University, teaching graduate courses in school finance, curriculum and educational leadership for the last 15 years. Dr. Podojil received both his B.S. in Education (1979), and his Masters in Education (1982) from John Caroll University, and obtained his PhD in Urban Education from Cleveland State University in 1997. He is licensed in the State of Ohio to provide financial services. He is currently Board President for the Lake/Geauga Education Assistance Foundation and has been an active member of both the Kiwanis and Rotary of Chesterland.
Dr. Podojil lives with his wife Karen, a licensed social worker, in Painesville Twp, and has three “boys” – Bryan, Andrew and Christopher, all college graduates, who live in the area. He is a YMCA fanatic (never misses a day!), loves all sports, and is a die-hard Browns and Indians fan.
Dr. Podojil is happy to have the opportunity to take the sum of his financial, administrative, and collaborative experiences to the Cedar Brook Team. He looks forward to sharing his enthusiasm for learning and growing with the Cedar Brook staff and clients.
